Most portion of a calla lily “flower” is trumpet-shaped bracts called spathes. Their flowers are very small on a yellow, 3-inch spadix, which is protected by spathes. Calla lilies can grow in ground, potting mix or in standing water, indoors or outdoors. During the growing season, calla lilies store energy in their rhizomes which can be stored for next year’s growth.
